The athlete achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.

The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap campaign with a win at the women-only Athlos event in NYC on Friday evening.

{The reigning Olympic champion, who secured third place at the World Championships recently, excelled in an outstanding win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I've barely raced this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive event filled the stadium in its second edition, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to present the winners with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The event also drew several top athletes, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
