A technical fault at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the airport.

Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted because of an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, ongoing issues are expected to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had initially projected that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Travelers should still plan to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the terminal as knock-on effects are worked through.
