Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on court had led observers to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent rescued four initial break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
