It is believed their cameos will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, given that the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children. This signifies the sixth installment in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise. The Source Material Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series. A New Era in Panem The film's story are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games. The film welcomes several prominent actors in pivotal roles: Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee. Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the calculating President Snow. What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule In other news, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2. Regarding the shoot: Principal photography started in the summer of 2025. Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year. The much-discussed film is targeting a November 2026 premiere.
