Two Victims Named in Brown University Shooting as Law Enforcement Press On With Search for Killer.

Two students who died in Saturday’s mass shooting in Providence were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their killer continued following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences online, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Remembering her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were injured in the weekend shooting in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a raid at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our community”.

The gunman began shooting inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official told the news agency.

Officers that raided the hotel recovered two firearms and magazines when the suspect was detained, the news agency reported.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, one student was discharged from care, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, authorities stated on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private academy in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Further Tributes

Tributes were paid to Cook at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only during her upbringing... but at Brown University she was a radiant presence in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the group. “Ella was recognized for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by Umurzokov’s death in a tribute. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, friends, and schoolmates and grieve for of his potential.”
